We've been dropping into the Smithy regularly since moving to the area 14 years ago. It's always been nice to see the same friendly faces time and time again, although unfortunately we wont be seeing Ed's again. He was a really nice genuine guy. We're glad to see the Smithy continues to go from strength to strength since his death; we're sure he would be really pleased by how well its going in his absence,

The best breakfast in the land!! Me and my family have benn 'holidaying' in Derbyshire regularly since 1989 and The Smithy is one of our best discoveries in the peak district!   Please be open this Friday - we're heading to Leeds for a wedding and plan to detour off the M1 for a breakfast - yes people that's just how much the breakfast and The Smithy is worth it!!

We drove past the Old Smithy whilst driving through Monyash when camping near Bakewell. It looked very inviting and friendly. We were disappointed when we couldn't stop to visit. We will try and come for a drink some time in the near future. Mary Connelly(old) and Andy(old) and Mattie Oxley(10)
P.S. Mattie's piczo site is every1lovesmousie.piczo.com please visit!

Shocked to hear about Ed on a recent visit. The Smithy and its breakfasts are part of cafe folklore. I have eaten here many times on cycling, walking, caving and climbing trips. Sometimes I think the trips are just an excuse for a breakfast. It's hard to imagine life without the Smithy. Long may it live.

I'm sorry to hear about Ed.
My Grandad, Mama, Brother, and myself, sometimes come into your cafe, after walking in the Manifold Valley! We esecially enjoy your choclate fudge cake, strawberry ripple ice cream, and toffee ice cream! (And Mama and Grandad love your toasted teacakes!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Hope to see you soon!

An absolute must, one of Eds gourmet breakfasts before the White Peak Walk. Enough fuel to keep you going all day, but do insist on the black pudding to finish it off.!!!!!!!

The Old Smithy in Monyash is always a fauorite stop on our motorcycle tours (www.attours.co.uk) but the only problem is that after one of Ed's breakfasts you don't always feel like riding of into the sun for at least a couple of hours. If the plates were any bigger they wouldn't go through the doorway!

The atmosphere at night is so different - who would have thought that a welcoming daytime cafe could become a cosy romantic bistro.

Definately worth going out of your way to visit
